Elon Musk hit a new apex on Monday as the Tesla Inc. co-founder passed Bill Gates to become the world’s second-richest person. The 49-year-old entrepreneur's net worth soared to $127.9 billion, driven by yet another surge in Tesla's share price.
Musk has added more than $100 billion to his net worth this year, the most of anyone on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a ranking of the world’s 500 richest people. In January he ranked 35th on the list.
About three-quarters of his net worth is comprised of Tesla shares. The market value of Tesla is approaching near $500 billion mark, which will be the first of its kind in the automobile industry started in 2003.
This milestone set by Musk has pushed Bill Gates the co-founder of Microsoft for the second time to be ranked lower than number two in the last eight years. However, Jeff Bezos the founder of Amazon is still holding the 1st position with his net worth of $ 181.3 billion (As of 24/11/2020).
